1045 Carbon steel rod
1045 Carbon steel rod
1045 steel bar is a standard carbon steel grade supplied in a wide variety of shapes, sizes and conditions. One common shape is 1045 round bar.
1045 round bar may also appear as:
SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers)
SAE 1045
AISI 1045 (American Iron and Steel Institute)
AISI 1045
1045 steel bar can be characterized as a medium carbon, medium tensile steel with fairly good strength as well as machinabilty & reasonable weldability in the hot rolled condition.
1045 round bar can be supplied as hot rolled, cold drawn, rough turned or turned and polished. By cold drawing 1045 steel bar, it will increase the mechanical properties, improve the size tolerance and enhance the surface.
1045 round bar may also be forged, annealed, normalized or stress relieved depending on the end application. 1040 steel bar is produced in a variety of lengths, and can also be packaged into wire rod. A common length for 1045 steel bar is 20′, while certain mills have the capacity to produce longer lengths in certain diameters. Typical wire rod size is around 4,000#.
Applications
With its machinability, 1045 steel bar may be saw cut, turned or drilled for numerous applications. 1045 round bar is commonly used for working cold steel into a variety of components, as well as machined into cold finished parts. 1045 steel bar may also be hot or cold forged to produce a wide range of finished products.
1045 round bar is used in a variety of industry sectors for applications requiring more strength than low carbon mild steels. Some typical applications for 1045 round bar are gears, bolts, studs, pins, rolls, spindles, axles, crankshafts & fasteners.
